As a first time visitor to our ministry, we're certain that you'll be inspired and encouraged as you tour the rest of our website and learn about our worldwide programs that serve people with disabilities and their families in the name of Christ. Joni and her team founded Joni and Friends in 1979, shortly after her international best seller "Joni" was published and the movie about her life was released in theaters across the U.S. Joni and the board of directors wasted no time in hammering out a clear mission statement for the ministry: Joni and Friends exists to communicate the Gospel and equip Christ-honoring churches worldwide to evangelize and disciple people affected by disabilities.
For over a quarter of a century, Joni and Friends has been dedicated to extending the love and message of Christ to people who are affected by disability, whether it is the disabled person, a family member, or friend. Our objective is to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of this group of people in practical ways. In just a few months, Joni and Friends will be celebrating its third decade of ministry and as Joni herself will tell you, "There's much more to do to reach people with disabilities with the love of Christ in the years to come!"
